As far as measuring the transmission line pressure thats done thru the transmission temperature sensor hole. Those are some of the common issues those transmissions have. I changed the filter an put new fluid. Possibility of an electrical connector coming loose, sure, anything is possible. It drives well, runs well, and looks great! The transmissions themselves are different internals as far as gear ratios.
So instead of driving the car I held the brake on while it was in reverse just idleing after 1 minit of that the tranny made a disingageing noise an reverse was gone. Was not abused, this was a premature trans. I have had tranny problems just like this without codes. The car thuds into reverse and has trouble going into gear. Mechanically, they are super little cars. Talk to a transmission shop to verify that your exact model and engine size does in deed have a replacement filter some models do not and if it does I would replace it.
These cars run forever as long as you take care of them. Should I try the Lucas additive? The mechanic that disassembled the engine stated that the camshaft journals were worn so bad that the engine could not be re-built. Then I found a how-to on these forums on changing out the valve body. Personally I would go ahead and service the transmission fluid and filter and see if that helps the problem. Usually this type of problem is due to low transmission fluid or a low fluid pressure internally of the transmission.
Check the connector on top ot the transmission pan. I would talk with the transmission shop and get them to experience the problem. Yeah if the transmission fluid is low, it will most likely exhibit theses problems. Even for a shop like mine that specializes in cars like this. Your local transmission shop can rebuild your transmission just like we can, but the difference is, that we only specialize on one transmission - This one! The gas mileage is incredible. A reverse slam is simply setting the hand brake and choking the wheels.
Most likely any saturn manual transmission 91-98 will fit, possibly even up to 2002 if you stay with the S series cars. I realy appriciate your time an I thank you much. Reputable transmission shop diagnosed problem as hydraulic leaks within transmission. Please take the time to watch all three 3 videos below to understand how this repair kit is installed. When the electro-magnetic solenoids or hydraulic valves get worn out inside, the do not allow the transmission to shift correctly.

From my understanding you can test the solenoids with the Valve Body in the car you obviously pull the solenoids out. I would also start using a transmission additive made for slipping issues. Better to spend that money on buying help from someone with the necessary experience.

Now I dont have reverse an only the first gear works. Is there any possibility of an electrical connector coming loose when the vehicle was lifted to rotate the tires? I hope to never have to buy the kit again, but will but from CarSaturn again if that needs comes! I tried disconnecting the battery to reset the computer. He is not a mechanic and did not have all of the necessary tools. It might last 100K miles like this or may get worse very soon….

My car--2002 Saturn sc2 had to have an engine overhaul at 46,000 miles due to burned valves in 2 cylinder. Setting aside a few bucks each week into a car repair emergency fund is always a good idea though, just encase an unforeseen repair arises. Which isnt the correct repair its a easy transmission to repair and diagnose but a lot of people just dont know how to fix or diagnose them. The website has a lot of good resources withy the videos and I had full confidence I could complete this project when my local mechanic would not.
The rear seat is a bit small, but it's expected for a small coupe. It gets good mileage and more than enough get up and go without worrying about getting tickets all the time. Not rusting is also a good point seeing as I am in the northeast. I can go right now an start the car an dive it an it will shift perfect for a mile like I said it only has 1st gear until it cools off. And they needed the valve bodies replaced because the filter was clogged for so long the damge had already been done. There are some other adjustments possible but check for a bad intake leak.
