The previous convertibles were rag tops and this is my first hard top--it is definitely an improvement in appearance, noise level and technology. Have to rev very high to get any good pull away. Its benefits on the smooth stuff won't offset its punishment on the rough stuff. Those in search of something more will be well served by the 335i, which maintains the 328i's refinement while adding a huge wallop of turbo torque that's always on tap. This vehicle really connects you to the road and is so hard to put into words how great it is to be behind the wheel. Which is why, in my opinion, they hit it out of the park every time with this series.
While the lever is over there, you can flick it up and down, to manually change gears if you see fit to do that. I liked the seats, but one of my passengers commented that the seats were quite stiff, perhaps more so than expected. Steering is spot on and responsive. Interior styling is likewise attractive, with stalwart and elegant lines making for a luxurious feel without being over the top. It is an automatic, something I haven't driven in many years, but don't worry, it is still fun. More important, though, is an all-new engine for the 335i models. It's like a sports car but with more utility. And with available all-wheel drive xDrive and diesel power, that ultimate experience or joy take your pick can now be experienced in the snowbelt or by the compulsive greenie. Why you wouldn't: Because the apple of your convertible eye is the imported from Detroit 200.
Oil was dripping and then the burnt oil smell going into the cabin. To start the car having to insert the key fob then press the start button is anoying. Updates for 2011 are subtle, with small changes to the front and rear ends adding up to a fresh look. Young professionals and their families will be very happy with the accommodation. The car has to be turned off and on several times to get it stopped. It was introduced to market in 2006 as a 2007 model and has been continually refined up to and including our 2011 test version. The trick is finding an honest european mechanic - don't let yourself be over charged to work on this vehicle. Not what you would expect. Zero to 60-mph comes at 7. Materials and build quality are exceptional; even the standard leatherette vinyl upholstery looks and feels better than one would expect. The 2nd engine experienced a rod bearing failure within 500 miles and the engine had to be replaced again, taking over 3 months of negotiation and finding another used engine.
We like the firmness displayed by the 328i's suspension, comprised of dual aluminum lower control arms with an anti-roll stabilizer bar in front. . You can get a sedan, a wagon, a coupe and a convertible; there are two turbocharged six-cylinders, a wickedly torquey diesel engine and a regular six-cylinder that's hardly a slouch. Leak was discovered during routine service and issue resolved. Best all-around car of this type I.
