Just an update, but I noticed that the back-light on the light switch is the only one working but only in the off position. Basically it appears that I am getting power to the panel lights, yet they don't work. Just the centre backlights behind the heater controls, or the ones behind the speedo,fuel,temp, as well?? I also replace the switch but that didn't work. Now I have real 14v bulbs cost about £3 - search online and they do not work. All a good job, so today i rebuilt the interior and hit the road only to find the dash illumination lights on the binicles and the heater controls are not lit. The dimmer switch controls how bright the lights are inside of the vehicle. Turn signals and hazards work when I turn them on. I will try the suggestion of removing the head unit when i get hold of some keys to get it out. Any other ideas of what it could be? The dash lights work fine, so does everything else.
To be exactly sure where the fault is, you should use the kit. Anyone else had this problem? They have just confirmed a record week in terms of the amount of business they have done through the forums so it's certainly worth a call. My mate has a 53 plate Astra 3 door 2. If all of the lights on the dash board are not working then most of the time the issue is in the dimmer switch. If the lighting issue is confined to the instrument panel then you might have an issue with the instrument cluster failing.
